SUMMARY:Jason Hanley and Greg Harris
DESCRIPTION:Chautauqua opens a week in partnership with the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame with two of the Rock Hall’s leaders\, helping to frame our weeklong conversation on “Turning Roots Into Rock.” \nJason Hanley is the vice president of education and visitor engagement at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland\, where he ensures that every guest that visits the museum learns about the history of rock and roll and leaves inspired by its stories. Hanley works to develop the museum’s award-winning programs at the pre-K–12\, university and adult learning levels. The programs take place both on site and online and include the Rock Hall EDU educational platform. Hanley helps plan and implement all the museum’s family and community events and partnerships\, and live concerts — including the summer concert series Rock Hall Live. Hanley also oversees the museum’s daily operations and visitor experience in several related departments. He is executive producer of the museum’s Rock Hall Honors series\, the Rock the Ryman event and is often the face of the Rock Hall in interviews with artists\, producers and industry professionals. \nBefore coming to the museum\, Hanley worked in New York as a performing musician\, songwriter\, record label owner\, scholar and author. His book\, Music Lab\, We Rock!: A Fun Family Guide for Exploring Rock Music History\, was released in 2014. His forthcoming book in 2027 is on the history of Industrial Music\, called The Wreckage Catalog. Hanley has spent time at the lectern in several schools teaching classes in music history\, electronic music and popular music studies at Hofstra University\, Stony Brook University\, Cleveland State University\, Case Western Reserve University and Cuyahoga Community College. \nHanley holds a Ph.D. in musicology from Stony Brook University and has been with the Rock Hall since 2004. In 2015 he was awarded the Long Island Sound Award by the Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame\, and the Shirley Strum Kenny Student Arts Festival Alumni Award by Stony Brook University\, and in 2025 he was inducted into the Sachem High School Hall of Fame. \nGreg Harris\, president and CEO of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Museum since 2012\, has guided the organization through an era of unprecedented transformation with a focus on innovation to drive growth. Under his leadership\, the museum has significantly increased attendance\, revenue\, fan engagement and community impact in fulfillment of its mission to honor the artists whose music connects us all. The museum has welcomed millions of visitors since 1995\, contributing billions in economic impact to the broader Northeast Ohio region. \nConstruction on a Rock Hall expansion project\, designed by world-renowned architecture firm PAU\, was announced in 2023 and channels the energy of rock & roll\, pays homage to the existing I.M. Pei building\, and amps up the museum’s beautiful lakefront location. With this bold expansion\, fans will continue to experience the connective power of music through unparalleled\, technologically advanced\, interactive exhibits and educational programs. \nBefore joining the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame\, Harris spent 14 years as a senior executive at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown\, New York. A native of Bucks County\, Pennsylvania\, he holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Temple University\, and an M.A. from the Cooperstown Graduate Program for History and Museum Studies.
